Summary
The Greenlandic Ministry of Labour needed to develop and launch a new job portal to replace the existing Nunajob.gl. Knowit was engaged to deliver a solution that would let the department support Greenlandic citizens in finding relevant jobs, exercise oversight of the apprenticeship area, and manage applications for the employment of foreign labour.
Suli.gl is built as a user-friendly, accessible and efficient digital platform for jobseekers, employers and authorities across Greenland, with focus on accessibility and ease of use.

First: A solid foundation
The project started of with a kickoff and strategy workshop to establish a shared framework, success criteria and risks.
From there we moved through insight and direction, where we mapped target groups, built personas and reviewed the existing portal; structure and page architecture, defining information architecture, navigation and wireframes.

Designing for a foreign culture
The design process placed a strong emphasis on accessibility, simplicity, and respect for Greenlandic culture.

Ideally, we would have traveled to Greenland to experience the country, its culture, and its people firsthand. Unfortunately, a field trip was outside the scope of the project, so we focused on getting as close to that perspective as possible.

We explored photojournalistic archives to gain a deeper understanding of Greenland’s landscapes, visual culture, and everyday life. More importantly, we spoke with people who live there and could share their own perspectives and experiences.

Together, these insights gave us a much stronger foundation for the design process. They helped us make more informed and respectful decisions, particularly when defining the visual direction through color, typography, and iconography.

A new and shiny polar bear
As the platform is owned by the Government of Greenland, there was a desire to carry forward visual elements from Greenland’s official polar bear coat of arms. Suli.gl was therefore given its own modernized emblem, creating a clear connection to Greenland’s official identity while introducing a more contemporary, approachable expression.

The use of icons and large buttons was a deliberate part of the strategy to make the platform intuitive, accessible, and easy to navigate. Rounded shapes create a friendly and welcoming visual language that is carried consistently across image cropping, iconography, and typography.

The Devil Is in the Details
To complete the identity, we created a custom icon family using the same visual language as the logo. Inspired by distinctive coding symbols and constructed from the brand’s typography, the icons bring consistency and character to every touchpoint.
